Feministing, founded in April 2004, is a blog and online community that aims to give young women the opportunity to speak on their own behalf about issues that affect their lives and futures.

Feministing draws attention to issues that are under-covered in mainstream media, analyze pop culture, media, and advertising through a feminist lens, push elected officials and media gatekeepers to be more accountable, highlight and amplify social justice activism (of the feminist and many other varieties), and disprove the stereotype of “humorless feminists” on a daily basis. Every Friday, we post a video about something notably positive or negative in the news that week — the Friday Feminist Fuck You/Fuck Yeah.

Feministing is more than a blog — it is a community. In addition to our main blog, the Feministing Community blog offers all members of our community the opportunity to post on the site and start a discussion. Thus far, there have been 2,500 posts on the Community blog. Our related social networking sites (our Facebook group, and YouTube page, for example) and our events calendar exist to better connect feminists online and off, to encourage activism, and to provide a forum for a wider variety of feminist voices.

Author and columnist Katha Pollitt says, “I love Feministing.com, and always learn from it.” Renowned feminist journalist Susan Faludi has remarked, “thank goodness for Feministing.com and sites like it.” And check out what our readers have to say:

“You’ve kept my hope and confidence in feminism alive and burning, widened my depth of knowledge and given me a way to show other people what feminism is about by showing them this blog.” –Alessandra S.

“Without this website, I would feel alone. But a little light of joy gets switched on when I read your blogs and people’s replies.” –Somali R.

“A little feministing, a little milk and toast, and i’m ready to start my day! Thank you for not only being a witty, sharp-tongued decrier of the patriarchy, but also a community of support for women all over the internet.” –E. Harris, Kansas

“I have to say that this blog is the best one I have ever read (not ‘one of’ the best: THE best). The wide variety of topics, the heartfelt and articulate championing not only of feminist but all manner of humanist causes, and the very specific and consistent calls to action make this blog unique. … I am 41, and I want to say that if you fabulous young women represent the future of feminism, I am absolutely thrilled and encouraged!” –Lisa W., Mexico

“I just wanted to write a note to say that I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now and it’s really changed the way I think about a lot of things and made me feel empowered to support reproductive rights and equality. … I hope to talk to many other girls about all these things as well – thank you for inspiring me to have a go at changing people’s minds and empowering young women.” –Grace M., United Kingdom

“This website has been an amazing resource in the oft isolating journey of being a feminist in our world; it is amazing to know that there are women out there who are experiencing/ feeling/ believing the same things as me.” — Yasmin R., New York
